What skills are needed for playing the drums?
I really want to be a drummer, so I need to know what kind of things I need to be good at to be good at drumming. Also, are there any things I could do to get good drumming skills without actually buying drums yet? I want to be sure I’ll be good at drumming and enjoy it before buying anything.
To answer your first question the first skill or trait an aspiring drummer should have is “coordination”. Without that drummers would have a difficult time learning how to move all four limbs at the same time. If your not sure if your coordinated there are a few simple tests you can do.
Try rubbing your stomach and patting your head at the same time and then switch hands. Another would be try and imitate a basic drum beat at your computer desk. Count 1,2,3,4…1,2,3,4 and on each count tap the desk with your right hand, and on 2 tap with your left hand, then on 4 tap your foot. It may take just a moment to get this down but if your finding this difficult then drums might be a challenge for you.
Drum pads or aka (practice pads) have a few uses. They are perfect for practicing your rudiments while trying to keep quiet, and the also are very portable so you could take it anywhere. Its almost become a standard for practice pads to come with two different sides. One side would be softer and quieter (Gum Rubber) than the other and give a nice bounce (Neoprene) while the other would be more of a speed pad as its harder and louder so you can hear each stroke very well. When planning out which one is best for you its recommended that its big enough to fit your lap about (10″-12″).
Pads make life easy to practice with a metronome and at odd hours of the night. Now when starting out in drumming or maybe you don’t own a set just yet. Its highly recommended to get one of these and a pair of sticks to begin your practice and make sure you won’t to cough up the money for a nice set. They really are quiet cheap and even after you buy a set you’ll still be using your drum pad.
(TIP: Create a challenge for yourself and work to achieve that. Example: Learn a new time signature or new rudiment. Make it achievable and set small goals like once a week to learn something new.)

I’m planning to go to Germany for holiday. I hope to buy a violin for my daughter whose major is violin performing in a conservatory of music. I don’t know where and how I can buy one.

What are the disadvantages and advantages of a Viola and Violin?
Ok. On my question yesterday, the Viola wins the poll. But my cousin said I should choose the violin because she plays violin. Actually, I don’t really like her suggestion to use the violin. Some people like the sound of the violin, some don’t. You should play the instrument you like the sound of. Don’t let your cousin push you around.
In the viola group I’m a member of, nearly all the people say they picked viola because they loved the sound. Nearly all of them are laid-back, funny, interesting people, too. I think that’s the personality type that’s attracted to viola.
