French Horn
How can I memorize the musical scales on my french horn…?
How can I memorize the musical scales on my french horn to where i can play them in the order of the circle of fifths or fourths in the chromatic and full-range patterns???
HELLPPPP!
I only have 1 month or less before finals!
It’s gonna take practice. Here’s a way I used to practice them…
Have the scales written out on your music stand. For one week, just play them in order, working toward not making any mistakes. The next week, play them while looking at your music, then after each one try to play them with your eyes closed. If you can’t, do it again before moving on to the next scale.
The next week, play all of them in order while looking, then all of them in order without looking. You’re going to make mistakes, that’s part of learning… just make of note of where you’re having trouble so you can go back a few steps in THAT place.
Then you’ll have a week left to perfect it, so if you’re nervous, you’ll be able to perform great anyway, because you’ve practiced so much.
There’s no way to do this without putting some work into it, but as with most things, the hard work will pay off… scales are the fundamentals of good musicianship, and you’ll be a better French horn player for it.
Good luck!

Flute
How do I find a private flute teacher?
I’m looking for a private flute teacher, but I’ve never had a private teacher anything so I’m not sure where to start looking . I’ve asked around but not really much help so far.
I’d say i was at a more advanced level. I’ve been playing for about 6 years and am in high school.
it depends on your level of performance. if you are beginning, or even advanced, i would start looking/asking at the local university or community college music department, lots of students give music lessons for extra cash. if you dont have that, get in touch with a local high school. all of the above usually have students that are capable of giving beginning lessons. you can also check if your city has a symphony and try to go through them. these people are usually always very helpful. good luck!

Mandolin
How to Play Bluegrass Mandolin?
The bluegrass mandolin is a great part of any bluegrass band. Great bluegrass mandolin players like Bill Monroe and Ricky Scaggs had popularized the instrument so much that many people wish to play it like them. However, learning to play mandolin reasonably well takes time and hard practice. If you wish to know how to play bluegrass mandolin, the following tips on mandolin lessons might be useful to you.
There are two types of bluegrass mandolins, the F-5 and the A-5. Bill Monroe played the F-5 and it is more popular among mandolin lovers. Before you start your mandolin lessons, listen to several bluegrass mandolin players like Ricky Scaggs. In bluegrass mandolin, the main chop chords are G, C, and D. Thousands of songs are based on these three chords. You should become an expert in playing them before you move on to the other chords like A, B, Bb, and C. In any advice for mandolin for beginners, the most important one is to learn to play the G chop chord thoroughly, since it is the hardest one. Next to practice when you learn to play mandolin is the D chop chord. If you had mastered these two properly, your further mandolin lessons would become very easy.
A fundamental rule in your effort to learn how to play mandolin is never lift the finger unless absolutely needed. However, you should not try to hold down the strings of bluegrass mandolin like you do when you strum the guitar. Your fingers should be just resting on the chord that you are going to play. When you are going to strike with the pick, you should depress the strings and should let them up the moment you strike the strings with the pick. This is known muting or dampening the chord as soon as it is played.
You could use an electronic tuner for tuning the mandolin but you should constantly practice how to tune your mandolin until you become perfect. It is advisable to change the strings at least once a month, if you are regularly playing the bluegrass mandolin for a few hours every day. The frets should be kept in good shape and repair work would be needed if the grooves become deep.
In the beginning, when you learn to play mandolin, practice slowly. Too much speed when you start your mandolin lessons would never make you an expert but could easily get you into unwanted bad habits. The downstrokes should be played on the bear and the upstrokes should be played off the beat. If you do not understand how this is done, get the assistance of an expert in learning how to play the bluegrass mandolin in the correct manner. Moreover, you should listen to several styles and types of mandolin CDs. This is an important step in any effort on mandolin for beginners. This is the best method to become versatile in your quest for learning mandolin. If you follow the above tips, you could easily learn to play mandolin properly.

Harmonica
We Want To Learn To Play The Harmonica!
The humble harmonica has to be one of the easiest musical instruments to master in the world. Okay, so there are some great Folk and Blues musicians out there that can make this little mouth piece talk their language, but what I’m talking about here is for Joe Average, without a musical bone in his body, being able to knock out a melody in no time at all. What other instrument allows you to do that? You really can learn how to play the harmonica in a matter of days or weeks, depending on your commitment.
Most instruments require you get a beginners book, or if you’re really enthusiastic, a private tutor or perhaps joining a local class so that you can get a head start with your strumming, blowing, picking, or beating, depending what it is you’re trying to master. But with the pocked sized mouth organ, there’s no such learning curve. Just pick one up from your local music store and learn to play the harmonica your way.
I remember the time I purchased my first ever harmonica. It was back in the 1980’s when I was bumming my way around the world, that I struck a fascination with the sounds and notes that could be plucked from this musical mouthpiece. It all began when I came across this Danish couple who were journeying through Western Asia.
Tucked away in their backpacks were an Irish tin whistle and a tuppeny ha’penny harmonica. After dinner one evening, on the outskirts of the Chitwan jungle of Nepal, they began to entertain a small group of us happy hippies with their music. It was at this exact moment in time that I fell in love with, and made a decision to, learn to play the harmonica.
It was some weeks later before I found a place to purchase one. Funnily enough, there’s not a lot of call for music stores in the foot hills of the Himalayas or along the swamps of India, so it wasn’t until I’d landed in Georgetown, on the Malaysian island of Penang, that I found a rickety little shop that had harmonicas on sale for a mere two dollars a piece. I could hardly wait to get started, and so rushed off excitedly to my grimy guest house where I began to lean to play my new toy.
It proved to be a great companion on my travels. The first tune I knocked out was the Christmas carol ‘Silent Night’. Well it was December! But soon afterwards I was doing impressive little instrumentals and jamming sessions with fellow travelers who were trudging the circuit with bulky guitars strapped to their backs.
Whether you’re planning a long trip, or just looking for something to do outside the virtual world of a computer, then why not learn to play the harmonica? It’ll give you heaps of fun without the frustration that comes with more serious musical instruments. Hey, who knows where it could lead you Mr. Dylan!
If you really get a knack for the hand harp, you could then progress onto to say Chicago Blues, Country, Bluegrass, Folk, or even some unique style of your own. Good luck!
